Imphal, February 9, 2025 – The Congress has dismissed Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s resignation as “belated,” stating that the people of the violence-hit state now await a visit from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

AICC general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh criticized the delay in Singh’s resignation, arguing that the BJP government had failed to address the ongoing crisis in Manipur. He further stated that the Congress was fully prepared to move a no-confidence motion against Singh and his council of ministers in the Manipur Assembly on Monday.

“The resignation of the CM is too little, too late. The people of Manipur have been suffering for months, and now they wait for the visit of the ‘frequent-flier PM’ who has conveniently ignored the state’s plight,” Ramesh said in a statement.

The political turmoil in Manipur comes amid prolonged ethnic violence, law and order concerns, and criticism over the state government’s handling of the situation. The Congress has been vocal about the BJP’s failure in restoring peace, repeatedly demanding the intervention of PM Modi, who has yet to visit the state since the crisis erupted.

As the state assembly session approaches, political tensions are expected to escalate, with the opposition gearing up for a strong showdown against the BJP government.
