Ratan Tata Laid to Rest with Full State Honors; Bharat Ratna Proposal Underway

Mumbai: Ratan Tata, the iconic industrialist and Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, was laid to rest with full state honors on Thursday evening. The 86-year-old business magnate passed away on Wednesday night at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, marking the end of an era for Indian industry.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, in a heartfelt tribute, has proposed that Ratan Tata be posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor. The proposal has already been approved at the state level and will soon be forwarded to the Central government for consideration.

In a gesture of respect for Tata’s immense contribution to the country, both the Maharashtra and Gujarat governments have declared a day of mourning.

Ratan Tata, who joined the Tata Group in 1961, began his journey on the shop floor of Tata Steel before rising to the helm of the conglomerate in 1991, succeeding J R D Tata. His visionary leadership transformed Tata from a largely domestic company into a global powerhouse, spearheading the acquisitions of Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover, and Corus.

In recognition of his contributions to industry and the nation, Tata was previously honored with the Padma Bhushan in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, two of India’s highest civilian awards.

Tata’s passing has left a deep void in the business world and among millions of Indians who admired his leadership, philanthropy, and commitment to ethical business practices.

Stay tuned for further developments on the Bharat Ratna proposal and tributes to Ratan Tata.
