India to Withdraw High Commissioner from Canada Amid Escalating Diplomatic Tensions
India has decided to withdraw its High Commissioner from Canada following accusations by the Canadian government linking the diplomat to the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs conveyed that the safety of their diplomats could no longer be ensured due to Canada’s “extremism and violence,” further stating they had lost faith in the Canadian government’s ability to protect them.
The diplomatic ties between the two nations have rapidly deteriorated after Canada identified the Indian High Commissioner, Sanjay Kumar Verma, as a “person of interest” in an ongoing investigation. India responded sharply, labeling the claims as “ludicrous” and accusing Canada of using this issue for political gains.
This escalation follows previous tensions over Canada’s support for pro-Khalistan elements operating within its borders. India’s move reflects its deep dissatisfaction with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s handling of the matter, hinting at further actions if tensions continue to rise.
